Building and Nanomaterials

Buildings are responsible for over one third of the world's energy consumption. However the building and construction industries are rather conservative and product evolution is slow.  Hence, the commercialization of new products needs solutions with much improved performance which in turns calls for new and better materials. The main research efforts of the group involve the development of new technologies, primarily based on liquid phase chemistry methods which will allow the realization of inexpensive and scalable process technologies. Our strength is the fact that we cover a complete range from fundamental science all the way to the building implemenation as shown in the overview sketch below.
