Aims and Scope:

Transition metal oxide compounds with perovskite-type structure (AMX3-d), and its numerous derivatives, show attractive physical and chemical properties, such as high temperature superconductivity, magnetoresistance, multiferroicity, thermoelectricity, as well as interesting catalytic properties for various redox reactions.

These properties make perovskites a suitable functional material for many applications as well as a unique formal laboratory to test models and theories pertaining to Solid State Chemistry and Physics. Due to the very flexible structure of the perovskites, composition, structure and therefore properties can be tuned in a broad range, but in-deep understanding of the structure-microstructure-composition-properties-relation is still far from perfect.

The aim of the conference is two-fold: In the one hand, to assemble scientists from universities and other scientific institutions as well as industrial laboratories to discuss recent ideas and establishing the present “state of the art” in the perovskite world. Secondly, and not less important, to promote the international co-operations on perovskite-type materials in both basic and applied aspects.

For this we are taking the opportunity of joining the XVIII Mexican International Materials Research Society Meeting (IMRC) that every year congregates together in Cancún (Quintana Roo, México) many scientists from Latin America, Europe and the USA.

The I. International Conference on

Perovskites -
Properties and Potential Applications

took place 2005 at Empa

Dates:

  • Submission of one-page abstract for oral and poster presentations: 30. April, 2005
  • Confirmation of contributions by 30.June, 2005
  • Conference 5 -7 September 2005

Scope:

Transition metal oxide compounds with perovskite-type structure (AMX3-6) show attractive physical and chemical properties, such as high temperature superconductivity or thermoelectricity, as well as interesting catalytic properties for various redox reactions.

These properties make the perovskites a suitable functional material for many applications. Due to the very flexible structure of the perovskites, the composition, the structure and therefore the properties can be tuned in a broad range, but in-deep understanding of the structure-property relation is required.

  • The aim of the conference is to assemble scientists from universities, scientific institutes as well as industry to promote international co-operations on perovskite-type materials development.
  • The conference will provide a forum for discussions among chemists, physicists, and materials scientists working with perovskites.
  • The topics include all aspects of synthesis and characterisation methods. Special emphasis will be given to theory, catalytic, magnetic, electronic, and transport properties of the compounds.

Topics:

    • Preparation techniques: Innovative synthesis methods (Thin films, soft chemistry,…)
    • Characterisation techniques: Structure of perovskite-type materials (characterisation methods, crystallography, TEM, XRD, …)
    • Physics of perovskites : theory and modelling, structure-property-relations
    • Applications of perovskites: energy conversion processes, catalysis, thermoelectrics, ferroelectrics, ion Conductors, CMR materials, superconductors, …
    • Perovskites under extreme conditions (deep earth, high temperature, high pressure, nuclear radiation, thermal reactivity
