3D morpho-structural analysis of tissues for orthopedics and biomechanics
Topical lead: PD Dr. Annapaola Parrilli

We carry out preclinical and translational studies in collaborations with hospitals and academics including three-dimensional (3D) and four-dimensional (4D) visualization of organs and tissues. One such project involves three-dimensional imaging of microvascular structures within the meniscus, providing new insights into the world of orthopedic research. Another study focuses on spinal degeneration hold the promise of transformative breakthroughs in the treatment of this debilitating disease. In addition, related efforts aim at understanding the role of muscular behavior in human and animal asthma.
Figure caption: 3D model of equine small bronchi showing structural and functional components. Cartilage is shown in green, providing structural support to the airway. Blood vessels are shown in red, highlighting the vascular network surrounding the bronchial structures. Epithelium is shown in pink/orange, outlining the inner lining of the airway lumen, and airway smooth muscle is shown in pink, demonstrating its role in bronchial constriction and relaxation.
