Doctoral Focus
I started my PhD in August 2024, as a joint PhD candidate with the Urban Energy System Lab at Empa and the Climate Policy Group at ETH. My PhD will explore the potential synergies and trade-offs that arise between data centres and the urban energy transition. Funded by the EU Horizon project Heatwise, a section of the PhD will be dedicated to studying the potential utilisation of waste heat from data centres in an urban context, as well as potential policy pathways to enable the sustainable use of data centres.
My interest lies in the impact digitalisation will have on the energy system, and I hope to contribute to the research focused on enabling sustainable use of data centres in environmental, social, and technical aspects. I hold a master’s degree in Sustainable Energy Technology, with a special focus on Energy transition and Policy, from KTH in Stockholm, Sweden. My master thesis focused on the potential of data centre participation in ancillary services. Before my PhD, I worked for the Swedish energy utility Vattenfall, partly as a coordinator for the research and development related to Vattenfall’s Hydro portfolio.
