Learn From the Past and Dream the Future
Empa, in collaboration with The Fiber Society, welcomes you to join us for The Fiber Society 2026 Spring Conference, taking place at Empa in St. Gallen, Switzerland, from May 20–22, 2026. Save the date!
Fibers have shaped human history for millennia, yet their potential for innovation remains vast. High-tech fibers depend on the continuous evolution of materials and processing techniques. To ensure fibers remain high-value products, ongoing research and strong collaboration between science and industry are essential.
This conference serves as a dynamic exchange platform for scientists and engineers passionate about fiber science and technology. Established in 1941, The Fiber Society is a non-profit professional and scientific association dedicated to advancing fiber-related research through bi-annual conferences.
St. Gallen’s rich textile heritage dates back to the 15th century. During the Industrial Revolution, the city played a pioneering role in the mechanization of the textile industry and became world-renowned for its exquisite embroidery, a legacy that continues today. Beyond its textile heritage, St. Gallen seamlessly blends modern infrastructure with historic old-town charm, featuring the impressive Abbey of St. Gallen, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and serene parks that invite visitors to relax and explore.
Hosted by Empa, the Swiss Federal Research Institution for Materials Science and Technology, the conference fosters innovation at the intersection of research and industry. Empa is committed to advancing materials science and sustainable technologies, driving cutting-edge solutions for a smarter, more sustainable future.
