OPEN POSITIONS @ 209:

PostDoc in the synthesis of anion conductive polymer membranes

We are a dynamic research group dedicated to advancing the frontier of materials science, particularly in the field of responsive polymers for energy storage and conversion. Our team comprises interdisciplinary experts who collaborate closely to tackle complex scientific challenges. We are currently seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team and contribute to our cutting-edge research on anion conductive polymer membranes. The project aims to develop an efficient anion exchange polymer membrane with high chemical and thermal stability.

We offer a fully funded 12-months post-doc position in the anion conductive polymer membranes at Empa Dübendorf, near Zurich, with the potential for extension. To conduct cutting-edge research in a rapidly expanding research field with wide technological relevance. Applications are open immediately with an expected starting date of 1 September 2024 or upon mutual agreement.

Post-doc position on electrochemical carbon dioxide capture and release

For an ambitious internally funded project, we are looking for a Postdoctoral researcher with a back-ground in slurry electrodes, electrochemical flow cell design, and characterization. The project target is to develop an efficient electrochemical cell to adsorb CO2 of different concentrations upon reduction and to release the latter upon oxidation, also called electrochemical-swing adsorption (ESA). Leveraging our core competencies in nanoparticle-based colloidal systems, coupled with our expertise in synthesizing pi-conjugated redox active molecules, we aim at significantly enhancing CO2 adsorption in a novel continuous-flow ESA system. We are in search of a dedicated and inventive mindset to address the diverse project objectives, which include the engineering of electrochemical flow cells and the evaluation of their effectiveness in terms of ESA performance.

We offer a fully funded 12-months post-doc position at Empa, with the potential for extension, to conduct cutting-edge research in a rapidly expanding research field with wide technological relevance. Applications are open immediately with an expected starting date of 1 July 2024 or upon mutual agreement

Master of Science in chemistry and materials science

Empa is a materials science and technology research institution located near Zürich. It belongs to the ETH domain.

For a research project at the Laboratory for Functional Polymers at Empa we are searching a creative and highly motivated person, who is interested in doing a master thesis in the area of polysiloxane materials to be used in dielectric elastomer actuators (artificial muscles). This involves the synthesis of cyclosiloxane monomers and their polymerization, end-functionalization of the resulting polymers and their cross-linking in thin films. The mechanical, dielectric and electromechanical properties of the resulting materials should also be investigated.

The successful candidate has a background in synthetic organic, inorganic, polymer chemistry, or materials science and is highly motivated to work on this exciting topic in the interactive research team of Prof. Dr. Dorina Opris at Empa.
