Empa is the interdisciplinary research institute for materials science and technology development of the ETH Domain. Our R&D activities focus on meeting the requirements of industry and the needs of society, and thus link applications-oriented research to the practical implementation of new ideas. As a result, Empa is capable of providing its partners with customized solutions that not only enhance their innovative edge and international competitiveness but also help to improve the quality of life for the public at large.
At our three sites in Dübendorf, St. Gallen and Thun we employ around 1’000 scientists, engineers, technical and administrative staff from more than 50 nations. Our staff treasures the dynamic research environment at Empa with its multicultural touch and the numerous international cooperations. Our employees benefit from a widespread network with both industry and academia.
Empa carries the label „HR Excellence in Research“. This award reflects our commitment to achieve fair and transparent recruitment and appraisal procedures as well as good employment conditions.
Empa was again named «Best Employer» in 2024 by the Handelszeitung, Le Temps and Statista. It was awarded 6st place in the «Education and Research» sector ranking. The ranking is based on an independent survey of employees. Over 1,500 employers with 200 or more employees were evaluated and over 200,000 judgements were made.
