ASTRA 2017/005 Robotic Reinforcement of Pavements
In road construction, bituminous or cementitious agents are usually employed to provide cohesion to the materials. Instead of using bitumen or cement to form the hard matrix that holds aggregates together, the current proposal focus on the use of soft reinforcement materials to be placed with robotic arms following the most convenient patterns. In this way, tensile forces can be transferred into the depth of the pavement structure in a 3D manner giving stability to the aggregates without the need of binders or external confinement.
