CARBO-LINK – hightech chain-links combine the disciplines

Mar 25, 2003 | MARTINA PETER

Empa has developed a novel hightech product, the lightweight and high performance CARBO-LINK tendon system. Carbon fiber reinforced polymer tapes are used in combination with an innovative system for the load transfer to enable demanding structural engineering applications.

Tensile forces can be transfered efficiently where minimum mass is required: Post shear strengthening of concrete structures against seismic loading; retrofitting of historical structures; as tensile reinforcement in cantilever plates such as balconies with a thermal loss of only one third of a conventional stainless steel system; and as rigging components of high performance sailing yachts. Empa presents the innovative hightech product at the Hannover Industrial Fair.
