CO2-Mitigation
Sustainable mobility requires a massive reduction in the consumption of fossil fuels and CO2 emissions and, in the long term, the complete closure of the carbon cycle, i.e. CO2 neutrality. Core elements for this are, for example, CO2 separation from the air and the production of synthetic fuels from the CO2 and hydrogen produced from renewable electricity. "move", Empa's mobility demonstrator, already uses temporarily surplus renewable electricity to provide hydrogen for fuel cell vehicles. Our re-search focuses on the development of new catalytic processes for the production of hydrocarbons and novel CO2 absorbers. For this purpose, we develop new spectroscopic analysis methods to study the catalytic processes in operando. We develop new algorithms and programs for the large amounts of data generated, which, with downstream analyses of all parameters, will enable targeted material development. Together with our partners from research, industry and the public sector, we are using "move" to demonstrate in a practical way that the mobility of the future can function completely without fossil energy. "move" also serves as a platform for us to validate and test the latest research findings and developments in real applications.
